Festive Open Hours
We will be closed all day on the following public holidays:
- Thursday the 25th of December 2025
- Friday the 26th of December 2025
- Thursday the 1st of January 2026
- Friday the 2nd of January 2026
If you take regular medications, please ensure you check you have enough left to cover whilst the practice is closed. It’s also important not to over order, so only request what you need, and make sure you don’t run out of anything during that time.
If you are ill during the days the practice is closed, and you can’t wait until it reopens, help will be available from a range of NHS services, from your pharmacy and minor injuries unit, to NHS Inform and NHS 24 on 111.
Delivery service over the Festive Period
The Tuesday service will operate as normal for South patients.
For North patients the last delivery day will be the 18th December, this service will resume on Thursday 8th January. Patients without transport can submit prescription requests early.
Important information for accessing medical services for those travelling to the Western Isles
Visitors to the islands should be aware that there are no local pharmacies in Uist or Barra. It is therefore essential that you come prepared with an ample supply of any medications you are required to take on a regular basis as well as an extra supply in case of any unexpected delays.
Phone Prescriptions
We are finding that the Dispensary Answer-phone line is both increasingly unsafe, because we cannot always hear the messages, and time consuming, because we often have to listen to the messages several times. This also blocks the line for other calls.
Change to Late Clinic
Extended clinic times are now fortnightly on Thursday.
Late clinic will no longer be held fortnightly on Wednesday; it will now be fortnightly on Thursday.
Closed for Lunch
The practice is closed for lunch between 12.30-13.30
Medication Delivery
South Uist Medical Practice offers a prescription delivery service.
South End is on a Tuesday
North End is on a Thursday
TEMPORARY REGISTRATION
Please contact your own GP in the first instance. We are a single-handed Practice and accept Temporary Residents on a first come first served basis, until we have reached our capacity. In an emergency please contact Uist & Barra hospital in Benbecula 01870 603600
If you would like to register with our practice on a temporary basis, please do this online. Under exceptional circumstances we can provide forms for you to take away and complete.
DISPENSARY CLOSED TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Dispensary is closed on Tuesday afternoons and closes for lunch between 12.30-13.30
PRESCRIPTIONS THROUGH PATIENT ACCESS
South Uist Medical Practice is now connected to Patient Access, meaning you can order your prescriptions through their website or through the app. To set up Patient Access, please contact dispensary either by phone or email wi.southuistdispensary@nhs.scot
